- Gently pat the area until it is completely dry with a clean gauze swab, tissue, or cloth.

- Using your fingers, gently push the two sides of the wound together as far as you comfortably can. Make sure to warn the casualty that this may hurt.
- Gently place one half of a clean, new wound closure strip over the two sides of the wound so that it holds the wound together. Start by adhering the strip to one side of the wound, then pull the other half over it to help close the wound. Adhere the other half of the strip to the other side of the wound. Make sure to apply the strip horizontally, don’t apply it in the same direction as the wound.
